What we Offer
The centre is run as a traditional Sivananda Yoga Centre following the lineage of teachers, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Swami Sivananda, S.N. Goenka and Mansoor, this is reflected in the Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Study Group classes
Swami Sivananda once described Hatha Yoga as:
“Hatha Yoga is a course of psycho-physiological discipline for the attainment of complete mastery over the body, the nervous system and Prana.” - Sri Swami Sivananda
Basics of Sivananda Yoga Class
The Yoga Class is slow paced, a meditative class that helps encourage proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality in the body while calming the mind. Because Yoga is a spiritual system with a physical component, this non-competitive approach helps the practitioner gain much more than just a healthy body. A typical open level class includes pranayama (breathing exercises), warm-ups including Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), 12 basic asanas (postures) and deep relaxation. The focus is on mastering the basic asanas from which variations are then added to further deepen the practice. The asanas follow an exact order that allows for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy, keeping the mind quiet and without the need to think beyond each individual breath (pose)
Basics of Sivananda Yoga:
1. 12 Basic Asanas taught and devised by Swami Sivananda to purify the Body, Nervous system and control the Mind.
2. Pranayama – breathing exercises used to further purify the Body and Mind, working directly with Prana
3. Meditation – Control of the mind, development of awareness/mindfulness
4. Study Group – Once consciousness is lifted to the higher Chakras through Asana, Pranayama and Meditation, it is possible to experience what has been written in many ancient Scriptures, Study Group is a vital part of anyone’s Yoga practise
5. Satsang – to share our experiences
Other Classes Offered on a Weekly Basis
