Meditation Classes

When the thoughts in the mind stop Meditation happens. Meditation in Sanskrit is called Samadhi, when the individual consciousness merges with the universal consciousness. This is a very high state and what is often referred to as Meditation is in fact single pointed concentration of the mind.
Ideally we sit comfortably on floor cushions for meditation but one can also sit on a chair. The main thing is that the body is still and relaxed, the spine is straight and the breath is flowing. One then takes a point of concentration to focus the mind, this can be a mantra, a sacred symbol, a candle flame or the natural breath.
We usually work with the breath as this is always present. The breath is the most powerful at looking into the mind. The breath is a bridge between the body and the mind. It is extremely valuable to sit together in a group. The group energy helps to lift the energy and focus the mind.
Guided Meditation classes are being held every Friday evening at 20.00 and usually last 30-40 mins, allow 60min to include discussion time at the end

How Does Meditation work
Watching the breath, concentrates the mind and stops "our" attention getting hijacked by thoughts. All thoughts originate from the past and then project into the future, thus keeps us in time away from the Present moment. The mind needs food just like the physical body but in the form of thoughts, thoughts are food for the mind. As we starve the mind of thoughts in Meditation it starts going deeper into the subconscious and pulls out past thoughts/experiences/patterns Samskaras. Sometimes this process catches us and we get distracted from the concentration on the breath, this is perfectly normal, "our" attention gets hijacked. As the patterns/thoughts from deeper in the mind come up and distract us, they are actually getting removed from the subconscious mind, this is a very subtle point. This process purifies the mind and removes past impressions that bind us in time and space causality. When the mind is concentrated it is also Happy.
