Meditation (dhyana) cannot be described. All ordinary experiences are limited by time, space, causation. When the mind becomes still time, space and causation disappear.
Meditation (dhyana) is who we are, it’s a thoughtless state. One cannot learn to meditate any more than one learns to sleep. One falls into both states. Used to see the Self, example of muddy pond, needs to be still to see the bottom.
Herein when we talk about Meditation we will be referring to Concentration (dharana).
Destress classes are running every Monday at 18:00 that prepare us for Meditation. A short meditation is offered every Wednesday evening after the Open yoga class led by Peter. Further meditation classes will be added in the new year on Friday evenings.
On the physical level meditation helps prolong the body’s anabolic process of growth and repair. Each cell is receptive, and governed by the instinctive subconscious mind. Cells have both an individual and collective consciousness. When thoughts and desires pour into the body, the cells are activated; the body always obeys the group demand. It has been scientifically proven that positive thoughts bring positive results to cells. As meditation brings about a prolonged positive state of mind, it rejuvenates body cells and retards decay.
Used to cultivate “positive thinking”, affirmation, prayer, repetition of Mantras (Sivananda book).
Used to cultivate Mindfulness, Present moment awareness, Conscious Breathing (Anapana & Vipassana) meditation.
ALL Meditation quietens the Mind, which brings about reduced stress, anxiety, fear (emotions), makes one more balanced, therefore can act, think more efficiently, rationally. Get tired less as mind is focused and not scattered.
