Learning to Stand

October 1st
14:30 -17:00

​Standing Poses are the building blocks of a yoga asana practice. They represent our ability to be grounded, to stand on our own two feet. They build a solid connection to where we stand on our mat, and in the world around us. They build confidence and clarity of mind. Join Emma Michael as she guides you through a workshop focused on poses that often come up in class, but are not so often give the attention they deserve.
 
This session will include lots of demonstrations and some partner assists to deepen your understanding. The last half hour will be a restorative practice so everyone leaves feeling balanced and refreshed.

Twisting with Alignment

​
Twists in standing, seated and inverted asanas cultivate energy, clarity and vitality. The actions required are cleansing, invigorating and very important for spinal health. 

In this workshop you will work through a sequence with particular focus on asanas that require a twisting action in the torso. As the trunk turns, the kidney and abdominal organs are activated and exercised. These movements improve the digestive system and remove sluggishness, leaving the body feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

When we twist from a firm foundation we cultivate the ability to broaden our perspective, giving us the strength to digest things in our lives.

Forward Bends & Sitting poses

April 8th

Forward bends bring extension to the spine and remove fatigue caused by other asanas, they tone the nervous system and are considered “cooling” asanas. Forward bends allow us to release the lower back and hamstrings, surrendering to intense and rejuvenating stretches. Knowing the correct way of sitting and different movements of the knees forward extension becomes easier.
 
You can expect a dynamic and active workshop followed by a cooling restorative opportunity to surrender into seated poses and seated forward bends.

​Sun Salutations

​June 10th

​This is an opportunity for you to study the alignment and intention of the most common sequence of asanas practice. We will be breaking down the salutation into component parts; we will flow through the sequences warming the physical & energetic body, leaving you confident and strong in your Surya Namaska.
​
Open to all levels.

Hip Openers

November 5th
​14:30 - 17:00

​Open and strong hips are the foundation for many standing postures and arm balances. In this workshop we will focus on basic to intermediate postures to align, open and free the hips.


We will spend some time learning the correct alignment of the hips within our yoga practice before moving through asanas which focus on this area, empowering you with the knowledge to transform your practice

This session will include lots of demonstrations and some partner assists to deepen your understanding.

​Back Bends

December 3rd
​14:30 - 17:00

One of the most common misconceptions in yoga when it comes to backbends, is that backbends originate in the lower back, when actually what we’re looking for is length in the lower back.

In this workshop you will transform your practice by working sequentially opening the chest and shoulders, creating length in the lumbar spine strengthening the legs and ankles and stabilise the pelvis and finally, opening the shoulder girdle in Urdhva Dhanurasana.

Expect to be uplifted, stretched and empowered through this deep heart opening practise.

Inversions

March 4th

Learn how to invert safely with proper alignment and intention. Inversions are known to stimulate intuition and clarity. Practiced with intention, they can help you gain new perspective by letting go of habitual fears of failure. 

This workshop will focus on intermediate to advance postures. Salamba Sirsasana & Sarvangasana, Adho Mukha Vrksasana & Pincha Mayurasana will be explored using props, adjustments and variations. 

Suitable to anyone who has practiced for over 6 months. It is an opportunity to explore and challenge your boundaries, face your fears and fly.

Arm Balances

May 6th

​Arm balances are liberating postures that teach us not only about our intrinsic power but about our innate playfulness, courage, fearlessness and agility. These poses challenge you to become your most present and available self. Learn a pathway to channel these postures into your practice with enthusiasm and ease.

Open to all levels, except complete beginners.

About Emma

​Emma took her first yoga class in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since. In the last 17 years she’s studied a broad range of styles and teachers. She has 4 yoga teacher training qualifications and is passionate about setting a good foundation for a life of yoga through healthy alignment. 


She offers a range of yoga classes from her studio The Centre in Nicosia varying in style and level, suitable for a range of fitness levels.
 
Her positive approach and cheerful nature helps students feel grounded and confident in their practice whilst increasing their body awareness and sense of ease within their minds and bodies.
